8/14/2002 GREENBRIER - August 23 event to recognize affordable housing community Press Release The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties today praised the new Greenbrier housing community in Woodinville, calling it an excellent example of how public-private partnerships can work effectively to provide affordable housing in our region. The endorsement came as it announced an August 23 New Homeowner Welcome Event at Greenbrier. "All of the partners involved in Greenbrier, including King County, the City of Woodinville, A Regional Coalition for Housing (ARCH), the Downtown Action to Save Housing (DASH), CamWest Development, Inc. and Shelter Resources, Inc. (SRI), are to be commended for their leadership and dedication to housing," said Sam Anderson, executive officer for the Master Builders Association. "The need for affordable housing in our communities has never been greater, and these public-private partners have found a unique way to help meet that need for many Eastside families." The first residents of Greenbrier, located just south of the intersection of 144th Avenue NE and NE North Woodinville Way in Woodinville, will begin moving in to their new homes later this month. To help recognize this landmark occasion, a New Homeowner Welcome Event will be held at Greenbrier's central park, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 23. King County Executive Ron Sims, Woodinville Mayor Scott Hageman, CamWest President Eric Campbell, DASH Executive Director Mark Thometz, Shelter Resources Inc. President Len Brannen, King County Council Member Jane Hague and many others will be on hand to greet Greenbrier's first residents and welcome them to their new homes. The City of Woodinville, King County, ARCH, DASH, CamWest and SRI joined together to develop Greenbrier as a unique affordable housing community, combining single family ownership homes, senior housing and multi-family rental apartments, community facilities, a central park and 10 acres of protected forest. The 22-acre property was sold at a discount by King County in 1997 from its supply of surplus land, and in 1999, the County and its partners signed an agreement to create a mixed income neighborhood with rentals for senior citizens and families, along with ownership opportunities for a range of incomes. The first homes to be occupied are 70 single-family detached ownership homes built by CamWest of Kirkland. These homes, priced from $115,000 to $230,580, range from one-bedroom cottages to 3 and 4 bedroom two-story homes featuring cedar shake siding and traditional Craftsman architectural elements. "With 25 homes sold in three weeks, we've been overwhelmed by the response for Greenbrier homes in the community," said Eric Campbell, president of CamWest. A fully furnished, 4-bedroom model home will be open at the August 23 New Homeowner Welcome Event.
